Product Overview
54672522 is the intake air filter element for Ingersoll Rand NG R-Series (Next Generation R-Series) 30–37 kW rotary screw compressors. It is mounted inside the external air cleaner assembly, upstream of the airend intake. As the first filtration barrier in the compressed air system, its condition directly affects the service life of the downstream oil separator, oil filter and lubricant.
One part number covers four models on the same platform — R30I, R30N, R37I and R37N. Both 30 kW and 37 kW, and both fixed-speed (N) and variable-speed (I) configurations, share the same element. No distinction by power or drive type is required at ordering.

Technical Parameters
Filtration Performance
- Filtration rating: ≤10 μm
- Filtration efficiency: ≥99% for particles ≥5 μm
- Dust holding capacity: approx. 900 g
- Filter classification: air intake filters are characterized per ISO 5011 by efficiency, intake restriction and dust holding capacity (EN 779 HVAC classification does not apply)
Flow and Pressure Drop
- Rated air flow: matched to the NG R-Series 30–37 kW platform; one element per compressor
- Filtration face velocity: approx. 0.036 m/s
- Initial pressure drop: intake vacuum should remain below 0.05 bar (5 kPa) with a new element installed
- Alarm / final resistance: per the compressor intake vacuum gauge and controller alarm
- Energy relationship: every 1 kPa rise in intake restriction increases compressor energy consumption by roughly 1%
As intake restriction rises, intake pressure and air density fall, and the compressor must work harder to hold the set discharge pressure and flow. At 0.7 MPa discharge and 101.3 kPa atmospheric reference, theoretical compression-ratio calculation shows approximately +2.0% energy at 2 kPa, +4.1% at 4 kPa and +6.3% at 6 kPa restriction. With typical R-Series annual running of 6,000+ hours, the extra power cost quickly exceeds the price of an element — the engineering basis for the factory pressure-drop alarm.
Dimensions and Installation
- Overall dimensions: 194 mm OD × 114 mm ID × 399 mm height
- Media pack height: 367 mm (approx. 32 mm for both end structures)
- Construction: pleated radial-seal cylindrical element, primary / outer element
- Effective filtration area: approx. 3.0 m²
- Pleat count: approx. 101; pleat spacing: approx. 4.8 mm
- Mounting: radial push-in, installed at the outlet end of the air cleaner assembly (54652565)
Sourcing note: When cross-checking replacements, compare all three dimensions — 194 mm OD, 114 mm ID and 399 mm overall height. The radial seal sits on the outer circumference of the element end; push fully home and confirm even compression around the seal.

Standards
- Applicable product standard: ISO 5011 (intake air filters for internal combustion engines and compressors — performance testing), evaluating efficiency, intake restriction and dust holding capacity
- Commonly cited test standards: ISO 2941 / 2942 / 2943 / 3723 / 3724 / 3968
- Note: the ISO 29xx / 37xx series are general test methods for hydraulic fluid power filter elements. If a supplier can only provide hydraulic filter standards, request ISO 5011 data or the OEM specification sheet.
Standard Installation and Maintenance
One person, approx. 20 minutes.
- Shut down, depressurize, lock out/tag out. Isolate the main power and lock out/tag out. Wait until the controller shows 0 bar. Criterion: gauge at zero, no residual air flow noise.
- Open the air cleaner housing. The air cleaner is externally mounted on the R-Series enclosure. Release the end-cover latches or bolts. Criterion: latches not seized, cover not deformed.
- Remove the old element and inspect it. Lift the element out vertically and check dust distribution and surface condition. Criterion: even grey-brown dust loading is normal; oily residue indicates oil carry-over upstream and the cause must be investigated.
- Clean the housing interior. Wipe the inner walls and base with a dry, lint-free cloth. Do not blow compressed air into the housing — this drives dust into the intake passage. Criterion: no loose dust on inner walls; in humid locations also check for condensate at the base.
- Check the breather filter. Breather filter 39123111 shares the 2,000-hour interval with the air filter. Inspect it now and replace it if clogged or heavily loaded. Criterion: media intact, no severe dust loading.
- Fit the new element and confirm the seal. Align 54672522 with the housing outlet and push it fully home. Confirm the radial seal ring is evenly compressed, with no trapped material or skew. Criterion: element face flush with the housing, even compression marks around the seal.
- Reassemble, reset the timer and verify. Refit the end cover and tighten the latches. Reset the air filter service timer on the controller. Start the compressor and run at idle for 5 minutes. Criterion: intake vacuum stable below 0.05 bar (5 kPa), indicating a good seal. If vacuum is high, check that the seal ring is seated correctly.
Installation rule: Do not start the compressor until the element is fully seated and the seal ring is compressed. With a radial seal, an unseated element lets air bypass directly between the seal and housing — equivalent to running with no filter at all.
FAQ
Which models use 54672522?
All four models on the NG R-Series 30–37 kW platform: R30I, R30N, R37I and R37N. Fixed-speed (N) and variable-speed (I) configurations share the same element. R30, R37, R30IE and R37IE also use this part number.
Is the air filter the same for R30 and R37?
Yes. 54672522 fits both R30 (30 kW) and R37 (37 kW). The difference between the two is motor power and displacement; the air cleaner housing and element on the 30–37 kW platform are identical.
Will it fit an R45 or R55?
No. R45–R75 uses 54672530, and R90–R110 uses 23429822. Filter housings differ by power platform, so cross-platform installation is neither physically possible nor sealable.
How often should it be replaced?
2,000 hours or 3 months under standard conditions, whichever comes first. In cement, quarry and mining environments with high dust, shorten to approx. 1,500 hours. Where dust levels are persistently high, a high-dust pre-filter kit (24737298 / 24737306) allows the pre-filter layer alone to be replaced, extending main element life.
What else should be replaced with the air filter?
Items on the same 2,000-hour interval: oil filter 54672654, oil separator 54749247 and breather filter 39123111. Replacing them together avoids staggered maintenance cycles and repeated downtime.
Are there service kits containing these parts?
Yes. 2,000-hour kit 24730897 (fixed and variable speed), 4,000-hour fixed-speed kit 24730939 and 4,000-hour variable-speed kit 24766123.
Which lubricant should be used?
Ingersoll Rand Ultra Coolant, part number 38459582, for all R-Series screw compressors. Available in 5 L, 20 L and 55-gallon sizes.
Can a dirty element be blown clean and reused?
Not recommended. This is a radial-seal pleated paper element designed for single use. Reverse blowing only removes surface dust; fine particles trapped deep in the media remain, and blow pressure can rupture fibers or distort pleat spacing, creating invisible channels. A washed element may look clean while no longer filtering.
How do I know it needs replacing?
Four signals: rising intake vacuum gauge reading; controller service-due alarm; media surface completely covered in dust with no visible pleats; falling discharge flow with rising energy consumption. Any one signal warrants replacement.
Is this a genuine part, and how is it verified?
54672522 is an Ingersoll Rand OEM part number. Genuine parts carry Ingersoll Rand authenticity marking and warranty. Always order by the part number itself — it is the only unambiguous identifier. Do not order on the basis of “fits R30/R37” or visual similarity alone.
Compatible Models
- R30I — 30 kW, variable speed (VSD), with dryer
- R30N — 30 kW, fixed speed
- R37I — 37 kW, variable speed (VSD), with dryer
- R37N — 37 kW, fixed speed
- R30 — 30 kW
